Amouage Search Review: Summer Bonfires and Smiles
The sun lends its warm kiss to my skin once again. I can’t ever get over that feeling, even when it’s too hot. It just feels like a sparkle in your soul that reminds you of some of the best times in your life. It will soon go dormant behind the horizon in a spectacular, and possibly even dramatic, show of orange and purple hues.
The bonfire is lit, illuminating smiling faces of people dancing and talking. What a simple thing to be joyous over. Is it the fire or the company? One tends to think about random things as the moon glows across the waves. It’s a calming and peaceful feeling, akin to the random thoughts we have in the shower, even though I always forget the genius inventions that I created as the steamy water washes my worries away. I actually solved world hunger and invented a mute button for Miley Cyrus within those walls, but only the shower knows now.
Although the sun has since departed, I can still feel its cozy embrace as the humid night air sets in. The crackle of the embers as the flame flickers with its chaotic dance provides a calmness, but it still makes me long for the light.
The final chapter of my journey with the Amouage Odyssey collection is today. It’s been an amazing month-long ride, and I appreciate Amouage giving me this chance. I did save the best for last, if you read my article last week. This one has probably received the most criticism of any of them, and I don’t agree at all with it. Let me explain…
Search opens up with a fresh citrus mélange of somewhat tart lemon and vibrant lime. It’s a beautifully energetic and zesty start that lingers for a bit but takes a back seat to the heart and base notes. The core of this fragrance is built around guaiac wood, and incense. The same quality of incense, a bit dry and resinous, with smoky cade oil that is akin to a campfire, hence the example in my story.
Search is a beautiful scent, but it is not citrus scent all the way through, and the performance complains are not the same as my experience. While it is not Amouage’s most powerful release, it’s good for around 8 hours. For something that is built around naturals with a few synthetic, this is pretty good. However, if a smoky citrus scent doesn’t sound appealing to you, then you might want to skip this one. This is a sunny day that evolves into a summer bonfire on the beach.
This is a good transitional season fragrance. Early spring or early autumn would be the best to bring out the smokiness. It’s not a rich and dark smokiness, so it could be worn year-round. Search leans on the more dressed up side to me, but I wouldn’t wear this to work as the smoky woods might be too much for those around you. It’s more suited for when you want to make a statement, but don’t want to smell too niche.
