Argos Fragrances celebrates Halloween with Charon’s Vail Extrait de Parfum, an addition to the Artist Series VII. The new fragrance is an olfactive journey across the Styx River of Greek mythology. The fragrance takes its cues from Charon, the Greek mythology figure. Shrouded in a “veil” that hides its eerie skeletal appearance, it accompanies the souls of the deceased in a ferry across the Styx River that divides the world of the living and the dead to their final rest.
A price has to be paid, a small coin to be placed in the mouth of the deceased as a token of submission to destiny lest they wander on the river’s banks for eternity. Charon’s Vail embodies this transitional mystical journey from life to death through the lens of ancient Greek mythology and the ancient passage ritual from the known to the unknown, symbolizing the soul’s final odyssey.

Top note: Rose
Middle notes: Patchouli, Oud, Sandalwood, and Atlas Cedar
Base notes: Cistus Labdanum and Saffron
Embodying life’s brevity, the fragrance commences its journey with blooming roses, hinting that life’s pleasures are too short and fleeting. The transition begins with a woody heart of patchouli’s earthiness, oud’s opulence, and sandalwood and cedar’s creamy yet opulent woodiness, embodying the journey of the unknown. Once succumbing to fate, the bittersweet nuances of saffron and earthy, leathery cistus labdanum mark the end of the journey of life, the beginning of the afterlife, and the inevitability of Charon’s journey.
Charon’s Vail is harbored in a heavy double glass clouded flacon with a glim portrait of Charon on his ferry with the deceased in contrasting colors of yellow, red, and black, reflecting a bleak scene of the transition from life to the afterlife.
The new fragrance is set to be released in mid-November 2024 and the price hasn’t been revealed yet.
