Gaultier’s Scandal pour Homme: An Edgy and Daring Scent

Jean Paul Gaultier is one of the most renowned fashion and perfumery houses in the scene. It launched huge debuts of some groundbreaking releases like the magnificent Le Male line and all its subsequent flankers. One of their most successful and best-selling lines was the Scandal line that was released in 2017 in a magnificently designed bottle. Many flankers followed the original creation like the Scandal le Parfum and the Scandal by Night releases.

However, in 2021 and to my surprise, Jean Paul Gaultier released the scandal pour Homme version. To be completely honest, my first impression was that it is a cash grab, riding off the success of the well-established line. Yet, my urge to try it was overwhelming, and so I did. Afterwards, I realized that it was a very successful marketing trick to grab frag heads’ attention with a very catchy name.

I went ahead and grabbed the 150 ml bottle and upon the first sniff, I knew what I was getting myself into. For starters, if you are not familiar with the new designer releases, you can expect to get your mind blown from amazement. The perfume is very well blended and smells very sweet and lovely. Having said that, if you tried or owned many designer new releases, you will find this release very familiar. Its distinctive DNA is quite popular among the designer houses. For instance, you can see the similarities if you tried Paco Rabanne’s Phantom, Carolina Herrera’s Bad Boy or even Jean Paul Gaultier’s Newest Le Male flanker, Le Beau.

I believe Scandal’s DNA is like the evolution of Paco Rabanne’s One Million, which evolved to the Stronger with You DNA and then this DNA. So, if you like any of the fragrances I just mentioned, you can expect Scandal to be right up your alley. It is a scent that will surely draw the ladies attention and is perfectly suited for clubbing.

Now, as far as the fragrance itself as well as the note listing, the perfume was created as a collaborative effort between Quentin Bisch, Nathalie Ceto and Christophe Raynaud, the later being the original creator of the scandal line. The fragrance starts with sweet and intoxicating caramel, a sugary and widely likable note. The heart comprises clary sage and vetiver to tone down the sweetness of the opening with a woody touch. Then, the dry down utilizes dark and addictive Tonka beans, completing the sweet inclination of the opening.

The perfume comes in 50 ml, 100ml, 150 ml and 200 ml, refill with no atomizer, bottles. The performance hits the high marks, and you can expect compliments anywhere you go, especially from the young ladies. The perfume is considered an ambry and woody oriental, so it is best suited for winter nights, specially those nights out with friends.

To sum things up, Scandal pour Homme Eau de Toilette is an alluring fragrance that attracts attention just like its namesake. The perfume performs really well in terms of Longevity and sillage, but the smell is not that unique and if you own one the releases I mentioned above, I think they can be quite redundant to each other and you do not need to buy Scandal pour Homme.
