Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Prive: A Modern Take on a Classic

On February 4th, 2022, Givenchy is set to release Gentleman Reserve Prive Eau de Parfum, a flanker to the 2017 release of Gentleman. The house has given the Gentleman title quite the makeover since its conception in 1974.

The original release was a Honey and Patchouli-dominated fragrance, that is regarded as a classic in the eyes of some. 43 years later, Gentleman was not only reformulated but stripped down and recreated as a woody, aromatic scent. The fragrance was perceived as a weak attempt at resurrecting the former great. However, this new fragrance has the chance to pay homage to its lineage’s glory days.

Gentleman Reserve Prive Eau de Parfum has top notes of Whiskey and Bergamot. Below in the heart are notes of Iris and Chestnut whilst the base concludes with Amber. The original, 1974 release is seen as the epitome of 70’s masculine scents. Reserve Prive will continue its history by incorporating Bergamot and Amber, which is found in the version from 1974.

Gentleman Reserve Prive shares a select few notes with the 2017 release and the Eau de Parfum flanker. Both the new flanker and 2017 release have an Iris accord, whilst the EDP shares Bergamot with the Reserve Prive.

The entire presentation is designed very specifically to match other Gentleman variations. The bottle is broken up into thirds, with the middle third containing the words “Gentleman” and “Givenchy” in gold. While the upper third is painted black, the lower third exposes a rum or whiskey-coloured juice.

The fragrance is available for pre-sale in Japan on February 4th, 2022. Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Prive Eau de Parfum comes in a 60 and 100ml size, retailing for $105 USD and $138 USD respectively.
