Jean Paul Gaultier and sacai collaborate on a FW/21 collection
Jean Paul Gaultier and sacai have collaborated to release an haute couture collection, mixed with ready-to-wear garments for Fall/Winter 2021. As well, the pair collaborated on a new bottle design of JPG’s Classique Eau de Toilette.
Every season, Jean Paul Gaultier partners with a new designer, offering a different take on Gaultier’s staple designs. For FW 2021, sacai’s Chitose Abe took a stab at the catalogue.
Abe offered ready-to-wear pieces amidst an influx of couture garments that are designed for the runway. The collection featured slim-fitting long sleeves, with matching bottoms. Staying true to sacai’s signature pieces, Abe also designed a bomber jacket and minimal, graphic T’s.
The intricate design on each of the garments pays homage to Los Angeles tattoo artist, Dr. Woo who’s known for his unique style of single needle tattooing. His work can be found on the long sleeves, bottoms, jacket and fragrance.
The sacai rendition of Classique features the material from the long sleeve, wrapped around the bottle’s busty frame. Blue and black ink recreate the design from the garments, finding themselves condensed to feature the best bits.
Classique will still be packaged in the beloved, cylindrical tin with its olfactory juice inside of the bottle.
On the top, Classique features notes of Orange Blossom, Star Anise, Rose, Mandarin Orange, Pear and Bergamot. Down in the heart is Ylang-Ylang, Ginger, Orchid, Iris, Tuberose and Plum. Finally, Vanilla, Amber, Musk, Cinnamon and Sandalwood complete the base.
The ready-to-wear collection is currently available on Net-a-porter’s website at varying price points. Classique, as well as limited garments, are available here for $192.
