La Nuit de L’Homme Bleu Électrique: A Comprehensive Review
Yves Saint Laurent’s La Nuit de L’Homme Bleu Électrique is the last flanker to one of the most legendary perfumes in the industry. We are not spilling any beans when we say that Yves Saint Laurent got sold to L’Oreal. This Acquisition came with a lot of alleged reformulations to many of Yves Saint Laurent’s legends, which left many of Yves Saint laurent’s faithful fans discontent.
To make it up to the fans, in 2009, L’Oreal came up with La Nuit de L’Homme Eau de Toilette which became one of the most alluring perfumes of all time, allegedly hailed by some as the sexiest male fragrance in the market. The Achilles’s heel of La Nuit de L’Homme was, and still is, its performance. It may be controversial but most intimate perfumes are deliberately designed to be only smelled in close encounters. I believe it is so to tease the wearer’s partner and keep them longing for more. Nevertheless, poor performance is always an undesired trait to be found in a scent.
With the prodigious success of La Nuit de L’Homme Eau de Toilette, Yves Saint Laurent released so many flankers in different concentrations, like the Eau de Parfum version, Le Parfum version, Intense version and many others. All these flankers represented a different side to La Nuit de L’Homme and rumors of reformulations to the original 2009/2010 left the fandom confused on which release to seek out and at what price.
In 2021, Yves Saint Laurent unveiled the latest flanker to date as a form a fan service. The new flanker was named La Nuit de L’Homme Bleu Electrique which once again shock the foundations of world perfumery. This flanker captured the essence of its predecessor but added a fresh touch, with prolonged longevity and higher versatility.
It starts by ensnaring the anticipating audience in calming cardamom along with the subtle ginger and a little bit of citrus. The cardamom, which is the base of each flanker in the line, stays throughout all fragrance’s lifetime and acts as the conductor in this symphony of notes. The heart notes are the dominant fresh lavender and the geranium, followed by a woody base of cedarwood and little nuances of vetiver. The perfume is pretty safe and will never come off as offensive in any way.
As far as the performance is concerned, I think Bleu Electrique is a result of Dominique Ropion’s on fixing the alleged flaw found in the original Eau de Toilette, which is the weak performance because the new release is excellent in the performance category. I can clearly detect it on me all through the workday which is about 8-10 hours. It may not have a prodigious sillage nor projection but as I mentioned, it is a scent for your significant other; only they get to smell it on you. Apart from that, the smell is rich enough and if I have to give the performance a rating on a scale from 1 to 10, I’d give it a 7.
Versatility wise, Bleu Electrique can be worn almost anytime, which is another win over the initial release in my personal opinion. Bee it day, night, summer or winter, I think you can comfortably wear this remarkable perfume all year round.
Some notes worth mentioning here are the juice color and the discontinuity rumors. The juice of La Nuit de L’Homme Bleu Electrique is attractive light blue which is a rarity in the fragrance world. As for the discontinuity, there are some rumors that it got discontinued after almost one year after its release, but I can safely say that I can easily find it among retailers and discounters, so I hope it is just a rumor. I got myself two bottles for backup just in case.
La Nuit de L’homme Bleu Electrique comes in 60 ml and 100 ml bottles, and is pretty much worth every penny you pay for it. One of the hidden gems and a true legend in the vast world of fragrances. Yves Saint Laurent official site says ‘A fresher, more intense take on the original’.
