Shalimar Millésime Tonka by Guerlain: When the past meets the present

Guerlain has been on a hot streak for the past couple of months with a number of fragrance releases that were warmly received by longtime fans as well as new fans of the house. It seems that Guerlain has a new gem in the making; the house has just announced a new limited release fragrance for women and a flanker to Shalimar, introducing Shalimar Millésime Tonka.

Shalimar was first introduced to the world in 1925. Jacques Guerlain wanted to embrace the oriental charm and create a scent that captures this unique oriental aroma. That’s why he poured all his passion into creating Shalimar which is, in a sense, one of the first successful attempts to create the world’s first, mass-produced, oriental fragrance.

This year, almost a hundred years later, the brand shows its dedication and loyalty to their iconic creations as the house proudly announces a new addition to Shalimar’s precious line with the upcoming limited release of Shalimar Millésime Tonka. As the name suggests, this release is a tribute to Tonka bean, a longtime Guerlain’s favourite scented material.

Concerning notes composition, Shalimar Millésime Tonka gets its ambery scent thanks to bitter almond and bergamot. With high emphasis on the Tonka bean absolute, this fragrance guarantees rich and bittersweet almond scent. Tonka bean also contains coumarin, adding a slight masculine touch to create a complex scent for women that is far from stereotypical.

The heart notes are powdery thanks to a plethora of florals such as rose absolute,  iris and  fougere wrapped in fresh jasmine, contrasted with sambac. The end-result is a warm, sophisticated and modern scent that will appeal to a lot of women out there.

The bottle design takes after its original release, which was inspired by the fountain in the Shalimar garden, and the bat-shaped label, which people tend to think of as Shalimar’s insignia. The label is also colored in black celebrating the color of Tonka bean.
