The New Dior Homme Sport: Dior Finishes 2021 On a Positive Note
To conclude 2021, Christian Dior has released a new Homme Sport. Previously released in 2017, the new Dior Homme Sport consists of a complete note overhaul, aside from a few essentials.
The 2021 release was created by legendary perfumer, Francois Demachy. “It’s a decidedly new composition, revisited with a notion of carefree elegance. A more sophisticated trail that still retains all of its trademark energy,” says Demachy.
The new Dior Homme Sport has a single top note: Bergamot from Reggio di Calabria. The note is described by Dior as being a “Juicy, zesty and distinguished gust of wind.” Below in the heart are two explosive notes. Elemi adds to the fragrances citrus profile and “expressiveness” while Pink Pepper brings a spicy aroma. Finally, the fragrance concludes with Frankincense and Woody notes which alleviates harshness and “injects a sacred intensity.”
In 2020, Dior released a reformulated version of Dior Homme, a classic fragrance that was met with mixed emotions. Veterans of the fragrance world saw the fragrance as a poor representation of its predecessor due to its lack of powderiness. Although, newcomers grew fond of the new release, deeming it a versatile, clean scent.
Homme 2020’s top notes consist of Bergamot, Pink Pepper and Elemi. These three accords are found broken up between the top and heart of the new Dior Homme Sport. Although, the pair have a different base note breakdown, with Homme 2020 consisting of Iso-E Super, Haitian Vetiver and White Musk.
The new Dior Homme Sport is the house’s fourth take on the scent. The first Sport was originally released in 2008, then subsequently reformulated in 2012 and 2017. Throughout the years, the Sport DNA has maintained citrus-based notes on the top while swapping out particular florals and spices.
The new 2021 formulation shares Bergamot and Elemi with the 2008 release. As well, it will continue the trend of Pink Pepper which is found in the 2017 formulation. The 2021 release will not carry on the fruity notes that are found in the 2017 release, specifically Pear. As well, the 2017 release featured three different types of citrus accords to the 2021’s single note.
The new Dior Homme Sport is available for order on the house’s official website. The fragrance is available in two sizes, 75ml and a jumbo 125ml. Each bottle retails for $85 USD and $115 respectively.
