Christian Dior has released The New Look collection, a line of beauty products that pays homage to the house’s first runway show in 1947. The collection features makeup products such as foundation and lipstick, as well as three fragrances under La Collection Privée.
The houndstooth motif is a legendary pattern in the fashion world, which has slowly become synonymous with Dior. From the beginning, the house has utilized the pattern to represent its love for all things English. “Enthroned, Idolized, houndstooth stands now more than ever as an inspiring symbol of Dior,” says the description on the company’s Middle Eastern website.
Both the Rouge Dior lipstick and Couture Perfect Cushion foundation have been rewrapped in the houndstooth motif. The design is tasteful and elegant, a true attribution to what the house stands for today. The fragrances design follows a similar path, as the bottle and its container have been revamped.
The first fragrance in The New Look collection is Ambre Nuit, a long-time member of the house’s Collection Privée. The design of Collection Privée fragrances tend to be very refined, placing more emphasis on what’s inside of the bottle as opposed to what surrounds it.
Ambre Nuit is a unisex, amber and floral scent which has seen itself reinvented by the houndstooth motif. The general release of these Collection Privée fragrances includes a stark white, cylindrical container that holds the bottle. This new design is a complete overhaul, creating a vast difference between The New Look collection bottles and others in the line.
The fragrance has top notes of Bergamot and Grapefruit. Below in the heart are notes of Damask Rose and Pink Pepper while Cedar, Guiacwood, Ambergris and Patchouli conclude the scent.
Gris Dior is another unisex fragrance from La Collection Privée, featuring top notes of Rose and Bergamot, heart notes of Oakmoss and Cedar, and finally Amber and Sandalwood in the base. The fragrance is a citrus and floral scent that leans towards the feminine side.
As seen above, the bottle also features the houndstooth motif. The design is imprinted on the bottle in a way that is reminiscent of Tetris, slowly falling at different angles. Like others in the collection, the special edition bottles will maintain olfactory juice.
Dior describes the scent as “Multi-faceted, Gris Dior is a subtle and elegant olfactory signature. An elegant fragrance that uninhibitedly combines heritage with a modern twist.”
The final fragrance to receive the honour of being redesigned in houndstooth is Oud Ispahan. The fragrance is a unisex, floral and woody scent that has been a part of La Collection Privée for just under a decade.
The fragrance has the single top note of Labdanum, followed by Rose, Patchouli and Saffron in the heart. Finally Agarwood (Oud), Sandalwood and Cedar conclude the base.
“Sophisticated charm and a traveller’s soul influence the powerful character and accents of Oud Ispahan. It is an uncompromising fragrance that highlights its woody force with the spicy, decisive character of Damascus Rose,” describes Dior.
The final aspect of The New Look Collection is the houndstooth motif designed travel spray. Dior offers their Collection Privée fragrances in sets of 3, 15ml travel-size bottles. The travel sprayer is meant to be refilled with your favourite Collection Privée scents, allowing the fragrance to be transported easily from place to place.
Ambre Nuit, Gris Dior and Oud Ispahan will all be obtainable in two sizes, both of which being staples in La Collection Privée. The 125ml and 250ml bottles are currently available on the Christian Dior website.
