YSL Y Eau de Toilette: Parisian Powerhouse Revamps a Cult Classic
Yves Saint Laurent has released YSL Y Eau de Toilette, acting as both a flanker and a revamp of the original 2017 release. Back when Y first entered the scene, the fragrance was also concentrated as an Eau de Toilette. Now, the Parisian house hopes to capture an intimate scent profile, embodied by It ain’t over til it’s over singer Lenny Kravitz.
YSL Y Eau de Toilette: Bottle breakdown
YSL Y Eau de Toilette is packaged in the same polarizing bottle as its original counterpart. The bottle is a rectangular shape, with the classic Y logo in silver wrapping around the midsection. At the top is a black ripped cap that encloses an atomizer. Within the bottle is an aquatic blue juice which is very similar to the original.

YSL Y Eau de Toilette: Notes and comparisons
This new release from YSL features a bit more of a trimmed-down note breakdown in comparison to previous releases. At the top, YSL Y Eau de Toilette begins with Bergamot and Ginger. Both of these notes are found in the original, although they also combined with Mint, Lemon and Aldehydes.
Down in the heart is Lavender, Clary Sage and Geranium. Lavender is the first new addition to the line as its counterparts are found in the original release. Pineapple, Apple and Violet finalized the midsection of Y in 2017.
Finally, the base finishes with Incense, Cedarwood and Vanilla. Both Cedarwood and Incense are found in the base of the original, with Vanilla acting as the lone deviant. The 2017 release rounds out with Ambergris, Musk, Cedar, Vetiver, Balsam Fir and Incense.
The use of Vanilla in the new release seems to be the most captivating addition. YSL Y Eau de Parfum is widely considered the best version of Y. This release focused heavily on a similar top and heart breakdown, with key additions of Amberwood and Tonka Bean in the base. The same goes for Y Parfum which threw in Tonka and Patchouli in its base.
YSL Y Eau de Toilette has been a somewhat controversial release amongst fragrance diehards. Community groups have begun discussions on whether or not the release is beneficial for the house. Some believe that this is simply a cash grab for YSL as they are cashing in on the line’s current success. While others say that the scent has the potential to dethrone YSL Y EDP as king of the Y line.
This latest release of YSL Y Eau de Toilette is currently available at select boutique retailers. It’s available in two different sizes, both of which are standard amongst the line. The smallest of the two is a 60ml bottle which retails for $94 USD. The largest is a 100ml bottle, retailing for $131 USD.
